Guided walks at Itchen Valley Country Park
Itchen Valley Country part is hosing a couple of guided walks this weekend and next.
The Woodland Wander walk will enable visitors to discover one of the hidden gems of Itchen Valley Country Park and see this year's great display of spring flowers in the Woodland Nature Reserve.
Learn about the ancient art of coppicing and other woodland management methods from the site ranger. He will be pointing out the different species of plants and insects that thrive there. Also on route there is an area of archaeological interest, the remains of a scotch brick kiln, dated to the late 1800's, where bricks were made for the Allington Manor estate.
The walk is at 2pm on Saturday 3rd May.
The paths can be very muddy so remember to bring wellies.
Not suitable for push chairs and no dogs.
The Bats, Newts and Hoots walk will endeavour to reveal the workings of the nocturnal world.
On Saturday 10th May there will be a guided walk to look for bats and a chance to use a detector to listen to their ultra sound calls and learn about these fascinating mammals.
Another creature more active after dark is the newt, so have your torches handy for spotting them in the pond. If we are lucky we may also hear the hooting Tawny Owls that breed in the park.
The walk starts at 8.30pm and lasts for a couple of hours. Due to the late finish it is not suitable for children under 8. Please remember to bring wellies, insect repellent and torches.
There is a small charge for these events. Please book places by ringing Eastleigh Countryside Service on 02380 466091.
