Animal art on show

AN event at Marwell Zoo, near Winchester, promises to be the world’s largest annual exhibition of animal paintings and sculptures.

It’s run by the Marwell International Wildlife Art Society and it’s the eleventh year that the organisation has shown off its works at the zoo.

This year’s event will coincide with the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year Awards.

The winner will go on safari in Brazil’s Pantanal wetlands, the prizes being presented on the opening night.

The exhibition itself runs from Thursday, August 27, to Sunday, August 30. It will feature 700 works of art by more than 170 artists and sculptors in Marwell Hall.

Visitors will be able to meet some of the artists over the weekend in two large art marquees next to the exhibition.

The marquees will be full of artists and sculptors demonstrating their skills and there will be additional artwork, cards, prints and photographs available for purchase.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a huge variety of exhibits, including oils, watercolours, pencil, pastel, bronze, 3D-work and ceramic works.

Normal zoo admission prices apply during the day.
