FRANK Bowling will be showcasing a selection of work at Winchester Discovery Centre until Sunday, August 2.
It will provide a view of Bowling’s paintings from throughout his career and includes three new pieces.
His abstract textured paintings are bold statements about colour and composition, guaranteed to capture the imagination of visitors.
Yinnon Ezra, HCC director of culture, communities and rural affairs, said: “This exhibition underpins the Discovery Centre’s ability to attract first-class artists to such a culturally-exciting venue.”
Exhibition curator, Jim Hunter, added: “The choice reflects the range of Frank’s love of paint over some three decades and demonstrates his enduring commitment to the creative act of painting.”
Frank Bowling was born in Guyana and moved to London to study and to develop his ambition to be an artist. He was the silver medal winner at the Royal College of Art in 1962 and he now has studios in London and New York.
In 2005, he became the first black artist in its 200-year history to be elected to the Royal Academy. His paintings are also on display at the Tate London and the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, New York.
