A ShakespearEan farce of mistaken identities, mishap and mayhem, marriage and mistresses, melodrama and mischief, The Comedy of Errors is the May production at the Chesil Theatre, Winchester.
This much-loved piece, which is Shakespeare’s lightest and shortest play, exploits to the full the potential for comedy of identical twins.
To recreate the buzz of a foreign port, with its masters and servants, merchants, prostitutes and quacks, Ephesus has been sited somewhere in South-East Asia in the colonial ’20s.
Director, Sarah Hawkins, said: “We are looking for four youngish men for the two sets of twins.”
With a dozen or more other characters, there are plenty of opportunities to take part in this colourful, tightly-constructed and fast-paced production. New members are always welcome There will be a reading on Friday, February 27, at 7.45pm with auditions on Sunday, March 1, and Monday, March 2.
Production dates are May 18 to 23 with a 2.30pm matinée on the Saturday.
