Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft’s unforgettable performances in The Graduate are recalled at the Theatre Royal, Winchester, in a brilliant stage adaptation of the legendary Oscar-winning film. This is a tale of sexual misadventure, teenage rebellion and mid-life angst which has a timeless appeal.
When Benjamin Braddock graduates from college, his parents expect great things from him and push him towards a successful business career.
Confused about his future and not wanting to follow the commercial path his affluent family and their friends seem to assume he will take, his life becomes complicated when he is embroiled in a seductive affair with an older woman, Mrs Robinson, the wife of his father’s business partner.
Although the affair eventually ends, the relationship comes back to haunt him as he finds himself falling for Elaine, Mrs Robinson’s daughter.
The Graduate has been an enormous success, both in the West End and on Broadway, and it is now brought vividly to life on stage at the Theatre Royal. True to the spirit of the original film, it features the music of Simon and Garfunkel.
Age recommendation 16-plus, due to scenes of nudity.
The Graduate is playing at the Theatre Royal on Friday and Saturday, January 30 and 31, at 8pm with a 2.30pm matinée on the Saturday. Tickets £16, concessions £14and £10 and £8 (cons) for matinées.
