Zulus Come to Danebury Iron Age Hillfort

Hampshire County Council is teaming up with the Salisbury International Arts Festival to put on two exhilarating cultural events in Hampshire.

On Thursday May 29 at 8pm the Lions of Zululand will be performing traditional dances, songs and poetry in indigenous languages at Danebury Iron Age Hillfort, near Stockbridge.

The Zulus along with the performance of Miracle in Rwanda', at Winchester Discovery Centre on Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 June, are two of the many exciting events taking place during the Salisbury International Arts Festival which has been supported by Hampshire County Council.

Before the Zulus take centre stage, a free guided walk is being held by Hampshire County Council between 6.30 and 7.30pm to discover the species-rich downland, flora, fauna and fascinating archaeology surrounding Danebury Hillfort.

Any interested visitors should meet by the toilets in the top car park.

Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage Councillor Margaret Snaith said: "I am proud that Hampshire County Council is able to show its commitment in providing a varied cultural offer to Hampshire residents through working closely with the Salisbury International Arts Festival. Not only have we provided one of Danebury Iron Age Hillfort and Winchester Discovery Centre as venues, we have also been able to give them a grant of £5000.

"Both events are promised to be a real spectacle., so make sure you book your tickets before it's too late!"

A Miracle in Rwanda' is performed by Leslie Lewis Sword who plays a host of characters to tell the incredible story of Rwandan Genocide Survivor Immaculée Ilibagiza, a real life messenger of hope.

Following sold-out runs in New York and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, this show will be held at Winchester Discovery Centre, also on Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 June.

The 2008 Salisbury International Arts Festival, which takes place from Friday May 23 to Sunday June 8, presents a host of new cultural experiences.

This year the Festival, which has gained a reputation for programming an inspirational mix of world-class events, delivers a diverse programme of over 100 concerts, plays and exhibitions including World Premieres, special one-off exclusives and Festival commissions.

With an artistic focus on SONG, an environmental focus on VEGETATION and a cultural focus on AFRICA, this year's Festival promises to be a unique and spirited event.
