PRESENTER of Channel 4's Time Team, Professor Mick Aston, is appearing at the University of Winchester on Tuesday, February 27, to present the latest instalment of the Enterprise Lecture series.
The event entitled "Making Time Team: 15 years of Archaeology and Television", will look at some of the aspects of trying to make archaeology accessible to the public through TV.
Professor Aston is a passionate educator and populariser of archaeology and over the last 15 years, spanning nearly 200 episodes, has become a familiar face on the Channel 4 programme, in which he has acted as chief archaeological advisor.
Prof Aston, who received an honorary doctorate from Winchester in 2004, is an emeritus professor at Bristol University and an honorary visiting professor at both Exeter and Durham.
Last summer, Time Team and the University of Winchester jointly carried out an excavation at the Roman villa of Dinnington, in Somerset, as part of the live "Big Roman Dig" programme.
The lecture takes place at The Stripe, King Alfred Campus, Sparkford Road, Winchester, at 6.30pm. Refreshments will be available from 6pm and following the lecture. Attendance is free, but prior booking is essential. Call Trish Kernan, on 01962 827578, or email Trish.Kernan@winchester.ac.uk
