Carlos Acosta at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton

BALLET star will be performing for two nights in Southampton alongside local singers.

Carlos Acosta, a Cuban-born world class dancer, has collaborated with a roster of internationally-acclaimed dance makers to create his most personal work to date, On Before.

It will show on April 14 and 15 at the Mayflower Theatre.

The dance tells the story of a doomed relationship between a man and a woman, which is brought to life with a group of 40 singers from the Southampton Choral Society, who will provide the backing vocals.

The music will be created by Cuban violinist and jazz musician Omar Puente, which promises to reach a height in emotion for the finale, Morte Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium.

Michael Ockwell, Mayflower Theatre chief executive, said: “I am very excited that we are able to bring Carlos to Southampton as part of our dance programme.

“In my opinion Carlos is the finest dancer of this generation. These will be rare performances by a dancer at the very top of his game, and I urge anyone who has a liking for dance in any of its forms to come and see this mesmeric partnership.”

Carlos recently received a lifetime achievement accolade at National Dance Awards 2015, with other Royal Ballet artists.

Tickets for On Before cost £40-£45. To book call the box office on 023 8071 1811 or go online at mayflower.org.uk.
