A ROWNHAMS woman is staging a concert to celebrate the life and works of actress and author Marian Alice Lines.

Carol Bishop’s tribute to the actress who died in 2012 is Songs and Poems for Marian’at the Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton tomorrow (Saturday).

Explaining more about the concert Carol who runs the Longlea Music Studio in Rownhams, said: “The first half of the show contains extracts from the musicals Crowds which is set in London in the 1930s and The Magic Fishbone – a setting of a Dickens short story.

Anna Lines, Marian’s daughter, will be coming from London to speak about her mother and read some of her poems.

Carol will be performing Marian’s one-woman play Mrs Worthington’s Secret Heart which follows the story of young, aspiring actress Daphne Worthington.

Joining Carol whose stage name is Diva C will be musicians Karen Kingsley and Robert Blanken.

Marian trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and she along with composer Betty Roe wrote more than 30 works including five Edinburgh Festival Fringe music theatre shows that Carol performed in.

She also wrote the lyrics to the choral piece Gallant Sir Bevis of Southampton and this work will be performed during tomorrow’s show.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and a collection will be held at the end of the show in aid of the Romsey Cancer Support Centre (Jane Scarth House). Tickets cost £8 (senior citizens £7).
