As part of its commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the First World War, Rmsey’s Abbey United Reformed Church has been focussing on issues of war and peace. On Saturday, October 4, he church is staging a “Concert for Peace” featuring local performers and a variety of music.
Pianists, Rod Blencowe and Kirsty Purves will be playing classical and modern music, ranging from Debussy to Scott Joplin, Rachmaninov to Oscar Peterson. Violinist Ella Beth Little will be accompanied by grandfather Bryn Bridges and playing Beethoven’s Romance and the theme from Schindler’s List among other pieces.
Viola player Rachel Maxey will also performing. The Romsey Youth Chamber Choir and octet Octavi-us will be contributing songs to the evening.
The concert which starts at 7.30. pm is free to all buthere will be a retiring collection in aid of Olive Trees for Palestine.
The Olive Tree Campaign is joint initiative of the YWCA of East Jerusalem and YMCA of Palestine which seeks to replant trees in areas where they have been uprooted and destroyed. It works for peace and justice for all in Palestine and Israel.
