Jeffrey Williams, the former organist of Romsey Abbey, returns to the console on Friday, September 19 to give an organ recital.
Jeffrey was for eight years Assistant Organist before becoming Organist and Master of the Choristers, a post that he held for 14 years until 2004.
It was during this time that the successful restoration and rebuilding of the Abbey’s historic 1858 organ and the installation of the Nave Organ were completed by the firm of J W Walker and Sons, under Jeffrey’s supervision.
Next Friday’s recital is to be given in memory of Adrian Tilley, an organ builder who worked on the Abbey’s organs for Walker, and who died tragically two years ago.
Jeffrey’s varied and wide-ranging programme will include works by Howells, Rheinberger, Langlais and Franck.
The recital begins at 7.30pmand will be relayed on video screens in the Abbey. Entrance is £5 at the door.
