It was a case of cowering cornets and trembling trombones in Timsbury this week as Darth Vader dropped in on Michelmersh Silver Band’s rehearsal for their festival g concert. The menacing light-sabre wielding (and tuba-toting) visitor from the Dark Side put in an unannounced appearance, much to the surprise of players Katie Topp and Connie and Meg Boler, as band members busily rehearsed the theme from Star Wars.

The Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Jermyns Lane, Ampfield is the venue for Lights, Camera, Action!’ – an outdoor picnic concert packed full of favourite movie themes and music on Sunday, July 6 Star Wars will be just one of many instantly recognisable themes from the silver screen to be included in a family-friendly feast of film music from James Bond to 633 Squadron, and The Wizard of Oz to Disney’s The Lion King.

Concert-goers are invited to bring their own chairs, picnics and popcorn.
