SIX Nation State sported a fresh new look, along with a refreshing new sound at their first home gig in a while at Lennons, in Southampton.
The quintet, who were supporting Texas band White Denim, appeared to have ditched their shaggy look in favour of short hair cuts and a more ‘cleaner’ indie look and their music has certainly evolved too.
The majority of the new tunes were more upbeat and fluffy than the songs from their debut album, also calld Six Nation State.
Old favourites like the periodically hectic I Hate The Summer, and Everybody Wants to be My Friend, were not overlooked, however.
With more than 500 shows in two years in various parts of the globe and a debut album under their belt, the band have been writing their second record in the basement of a North London pub.
Their new stuff shows they have evolved and there is deeper creative depth within the band and they gave a spirited performance in front of an adoring home crowd.
SixNationState have also unveiled a new demo track, "Your Money Or Your Life", from their next album which is available as a free download exclusively from www.sixnationstate.co.uk.
White Denim, a trio, came across as a slick, yet simultaneously manic rock, pop, rustic mix.
They kicked off their set with a Hendrixesque style elongated instrumental intro that lasted for at least five minutes before the first song kicked in.
They certainly had the crowd interested and were certainly good at what they did, but didn’t have the wow factor as far as I was concerned.
Six Nations State’s second album is certainly one to look out for and I will be waiting for it with baited breath.
