THE most diverse range of events in its history is promised from the new season at Winchester Discovery Centre.

In music, Beverley Craven will be performing all her hits from the ’90s in October with a pared down acoustic line-up before American folk legend Tom Paley visits with his easygoing style and traditional tunes.

Improvisation with a folk/Celtic flavour will see Tim Edey and Brendan Power capture the audiences’ attention in December.

November is a big month for comedy as the venue welcomes both Norman Lovett, a favourite among Red Dwarf fans, and Arthur Smith, best known for his outspoken views on life and appearances on TV’s Grumpy old Men, to entertain you.

Bringing laughter to Winchester for over four years, the Barnstormers stand-up nights return in September with more professionals from the London circuit.

Classic The Wessex Children’s Book Festival will entertain youngsters at the end of October.

This year’s star authors include Jacqueline Wilson, Steve Cole, Judith Kerr and Nick Arnold.

Also in October, Rumpelstiltskin, followed in November by Secret Garden, the well-loved children’s classic brought to life through circus, puppetry, film and music.

CBeebies presenter Andy and friend Mike bring their Tick Tock Time Machine show to children aged three and over in November following sell-out shows last season and fellow CBeebies presenter Sid Sloane makes his Winchester debut with Sid’s Show in December.

The prestigious International Garden Photographer of the Year exhibition continues in the Gallery, while the City Space gallery welcomes back the Winchester Art Club for their annual exhibition, followed by Making It – a local celebration of ‘making’ followed by a weekend of craft events in October.

A huge woven installation comes to the Gallery for In the Thick of It, also in October, while the City Space gallery hosts Spinning a Yarn, Weaving a Thread, with an opportunity to see ancient craft techniques.
