AN independent wine merchant with a store in Stockbridge is celebrating its fifth anniversary this month (February).
Caviste was set up in February 2003 in Overton as The Cellar Door by winemaker David Thomas and wife Hannah.
The shop in Stockbridge High Street was opened in April 2007 after the business grew too big for one store.
Mr Thomas' idea was to share small production, handcrafted wines from around the world.
Now the business claims a customer base of 3,000 wine lovers around the UK and has won recognition from the industry for its work.
It reached the finals of the OLM Independent Wine Retailer of the Year Awards in 2005, won the Association of New Zealand Wine Growers Independent Wine Merchant Award in 2006 and was recommended in the Guardian's 2007 Shopping Directory as one of the UK's finest independent wine merchants.
The two shops stock an extensive range from around the globe, as well as holding tasting evenings and educational courses.
Mr Thomas said: "Hannah and I are extremely proud of the growth and success of the business over the past five years.
"We've come such a long way since the early days and we'd like to thank not only our fantastic and passionate team but also our customers for their continued loyalty and support."
