Government Work Programme set to bring new opportunities for agency

IT’S only been going six months but, already, Whiteley-based specialist recruitment agency, Alderwood education, is exceeding expectations, doubling its database to more than 40,000 active education and training jobseekers and starting a schools department to place supply teachers in Hampshire, Berkshire and West Sussex.

Now it is about to set up a new brand to focus on senior level appointments. Alderwood Executive, launching in April, will focus on recruiting at senior manager, director and board level in the education and training industries.

The Government’s announcement of 100,000 additional apprenticeship places by 2014 means increased demand for vocationally-experienced assessors and, in the last six months, Alderwood has placed more than 150.

“We believe the key to our success is having a deep understanding of the niche industries in which we work,” said director, Anton Roe.

“We have taken on staff directly from the industry we are recruiting for which, we believe, has given us the edge in a tough economic climate. “With Vince Cable’s pledge of £1.4bn for apprenticeship schemes and the start of the Work Programme, we are looking forward to throwing ourselves behind this investment, placing the right people in the right jobs, watching the already high level of apprenticeships soar and, ultimately, unemployment levels drop.”

Jamie Harding has joined Alderwood Education as operations manager to further develop its schools team.

He has more than seven years’ experience in the education recruitment, the last three being managing the Hampshire business of one of the largest recruiters of supply teachers in England.
