A COFFEE shop could lose up to £2,000 after it has been forced to close following a water leak.

Winchester firefighters were called to Starbucks in the High Street after reports that water was pouring in from the roof and leaking the store’s electrical system.

The store’s shift manager, Hannah Sinclair, said: “There’s a flat roof that runs front to back of the store with a drain at the end, and it was blocked.

“There was about three inches of water just sat on top of the roof and we had two places where it was leaking.”

Now the electrics need to be checked before the shop is safe to open.

Manager, Giuseppe Imparato, said they hope to open later today but at the latest tomorrow morning.

“We will sort this out as soon as possible,” he said.

“But it depends on the electrics.”

If forced to close for the entire day, the store could lose around £2,000 - a day's takings.

A spokesman for Winchester Fire Station said: “We were called to the scene at 5.30am. We were alerted to the problem because the water tripped the fire alarms.”

No other shops seem to have been affected.
