A POWERBOAT company based in Romsey will appear in New York this week as part of Santander’s Women in Business event.

Fiona Pool, chief executive officer of Hunton Powerboats, is one of nine UK business owners at the event in the Big Apple which aims to help small and medium enterprises break into the global market.

Ms Pool hopes to gain knowledge of the private powerboat industry in the US by assessing the international sales platform as part of the event programme.

This will be the third Women in Business gathering which is part of Santander’s Breakthrough Programme and has been organised by Santander with the support of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), Santander US and Empire Global Ventures.

John Williams, head of Breakthrough at Santander, said: “It’s great that the ‘Women in Business’ trade mission is back in New York with some of the UK’s most exciting entrepreneurial businesses. Nothing can beat meeting people on the ground in a local market.

“Our two previous trade missions to the US have proved that being over here in person can open up opportunities, build confidence and inspire some of our best entrepreneurs to break into new markets. We are very excited about the prospects for this trade mission, particularly with the variety of businesses we have on board.”
