THOUSANDS of jobseekers packed into a Southampton jobs fair as new figures showed a slight fall in unemployment figures.
Large queues formed outside the City Cruise Terminal for the Solent Jobs Fair where up to 80 local employers showcased opportunities.
Among the vacancies were 160 positions at Costco, the huge cash and carry superstore which is set to open on the former British American Tobacco site in Millbrook next spring.
Other employers giving out information were Sky TV, which had sales adviser positions, the Foster Care Associates and HSBC.
The jobs bonanza, supported by local councils and part-funded by the European Union, attracted everyone from youngsters fresh from college and university to middle aged people with years of experience.
There was even a specialist Apprenticeship Centre and Graduate Fair.
In the morning it was children and teenagers who took centre stage as 2,300 school pupils from across the region flooded into the Solent Skills Fest to learn about a range of careers. Meanwhile primary children enjoyed a science and technology festival.
There was a Daily Echo stand where reporter Tara Russell gave budding journalists the chance to create their own front page articles.
