PASSENGER numbers at Southampton Airport have taken a nosedive.
It welcomed 499,522 passengers between January and April, which is 14.3 per cent down on the same period last year.
Passenger flows have plummeted in airports countrywide as the recession forces more people to stay at home.
“But we are suffering less than some other regional airports such as Bournemouth, Bristol and London City,” said a spokesman.
The decrease at Southampton was evident in both domestic and European travel while numbers for Channel Islands services stayed broadly consistent.
