HUGE housing demand in the south east will boost the region’s construction sector, according to new research from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
The CITB’s annual Construction Skills Network (CSN) report forecasts construction output in the south east to grow by 1.1 per cent over the next five years, with strong projected growth in both public and private housing.
The increase in output means an additional 2,250 workers will be required each year in the south east with scaffolders, architects and plant operatives in greatest demand and, much like the rest of the UK, more construction process managers, trade supervisors and project managers are also required.
Hayley Coe, partnerships manager for the south East at CITB, said: “The outlook is sunny for construction in the South East due to a solid pipeline of work, particularly in housebuilding. With the government housing targets increasing and population growth in the region showing no sign of slowing, construction output in the region looks set to grow over the next five years and beyond.
“With thousands of new construction jobs opening up, there’s plenty of work and money to be made – I’d urge anyone who’s thought about a construction career to get involved.”
