A TWO-YEAR-OLD Hampshire business has scooped winning titles in a national competition.

The team of daredevils from Totton-based jet ski company Carve Composites were crowned champs at the UK Freeride Championships 2017.

The team won the contest riding jet skis designed by company owner Andy Forrester.

Carve Composites won both the UK pro and amateur titles at the south coast Battle of the Pilots event at Newquay in Cornwall.

Team riders Dan Foy, 30, from Fareham, and teen sensation Luis Sparkes, 16 from Totton, fought their way through tough conditions to claim the titles, with Matt Rajzowicz, 27, from Gosport coming third in the pro contest.

And with Dan riding the very first jet ski designed by engineer Andy it’s a great start to what looks set to be an auspicious future for the company.

Andy said: “Dan put on a truly world class performance of huge flex flips and no-handed barrel rolls, leaving the beach crowd almost breathless, to claim the pro championship crown in style.”

Luis only started the sport a few months ago, but impressed judges enough to walk away with the title.

Now he’s been taken on as a full-time apprentice at the workshop in Totton, with Andy as his boss and mentor.

Andy added: “I knew we had a good chance of one title, but to get two had me close to tears, it still hasn’t sunk in properly yet.

“We’ve all worked so hard for this and it paid off in spectacular style”

After the excitement of the UK rounds, the team had little time to relax as all riders were involved in European and IFWA world championship qualifiers.

A further two days of heats ended with Dan climbing the podium once again for third place in the European finals.

The jet skis designed and manufactured by Andy and Luis at the workshop in Totton are some of the only ‘surf hull’ types made in the UK, and are designed to ride and withstand huge waves. They have a longer hull and are more durable than free style jet skis, which are designed for use in lakes and rivers.

He said he builds his jet skis “on a shoestring budget” and to order at the factory, where they also mend and repair broken vessels.
