FUND RAISING by staff at the Port of Southampton has boosted funds at the Honeypot Children’s Charity by over £19,000.

Honeypot was chosen as the charity of the year by staff in 2016 and they undertook a variety of activities to support the work they do with young carers and vulnerable children aged from five to 12 years.

In total £19,132.44 was raised by port staff, enough to support 40 children for a year and pay for each to have a respite break with the charity at their New Forest base, three visits from their Playbus, a birthday card and a Christmas gift.

A canoe race from Devizes to Westminster, a golf day and donations from people parking at the port were among the activities that helped to raise the funds.

Port Director, Alastair Welch, said: “Being able to have fun and enjoy a break at Honeypot House with other children is so important. We are delighted to have been able to support Honeypot in the important work they do with young carers and vulnerable children.

“It is good to know the money raised will help 40 children to enjoy a year of support from Honeypot.”

Regional Fundraising Manager, Laura Coleman, said: “Honeypot receives no direct government funding and so we rely totally on donations in order to provide our much needed service. Without the support of companies like ABP Southampton this simply wouldn’t be possible.

“As a result of this wonderful donation being made to the charity, 40 local children will benefit immensely. We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved at ABP Southampton for a fantastic outcome from the year-long partnership.”
