JOBS are at risk at a Hampshire beer depot after a major chain revealed plans to review its supply operations.

Carlsberg UK depot logistics staff across the country are at risk of losing their jobs after the brand confirmed they would no longer be providing delivery services in-house.

Now it has been revealed that staff in the Chandler’s Ford Carlsberg depot will also be affected.

The Danish firm has been unable to confirm the number of jobs at risk in the Reliant Close depot but it is believed there are around 60 jobs at the branch.

Carlsberg UK has also confirmed there are 900 logistics roles in depots across the UK under threat.

Now Carlsberg will be holding a consultation to determine the impact of outsourcing their supply operations.

It comes after the brand announced plans in November last year to transform the business so it could focus on beer and brewing.

The world’s fourth-largest beer producer has said plans to no longer provide porterage services will now be implemented in the next year.

Porterage services involve using multiple operators to deliver drink supplier’s stock and Carlsberg has been offering this service for more than 20 years.

But they will be transferring these services to specialist company DHL Tradeteam from 2017 to 2018 in a bid to “be less complex, and be more agile and responsive.”

The decision comes after a review of the company’s supply chain operations – which sees depots deliver beer across the country including from Chandler’s Ford.

A Chandler's Ford employee said: "We've known something was coming for a while but I just think the decision is really selfish and awful timing.

"With everything that has happened with the referendum there is an air of uncertainty about everything and this doesn't help at all."

The company will now hold a consultation which is expected to last “a few months” to determine the impact outsourcing will have on employees.

Julian Momen, Chief Executive, Carlsberg UK, said: ““We recognise this is a significant change for our business and in particular our employees.

Our focus over the coming months will be on providing all potentially affected employees with the support they require.

"In the longer term this transformation will build a sustainable business focused on our core offering, which is brewing premium quality beers and building brands.”
