WITH more companies looking donate to charity; one of Southampton’s biggest organisations is on the lookout for its chosen charity for 2016.

Each year Southampton Airport chooses a local charity which will benefit from the company’s fundraising.

The chosen charity will have a unique opportunity to work alongside the airport to raise valuable funds for their local cause.

The airport will also help publicise the charity as much as it can, by hosting them as their sponsors on their website.

Director of marketing and communications at the airport, Jan Halliday said it is a great way for the staff at the airport to get involved in the community and show they are not just about travel.

She said: “This is an exciting new initiative for Southampton Airport and we are looking forward to working in partnership with a local charity or community group to make a great impact in 2016.”

The main benefit the chosen charity will see is all the money from the airports Summer Solstice Sprint fundraiser will go directly to the charity.

The fundraiser held in June each year sees staff and volunteers taking part in a a 5k fun run down Southampton Airport’s runway at dawn on one of the longest days of the year.

Last year more than 300 people took part in the event at the airport.

Daily Echo:

The race raised more than £3,500 for Sophie’s Appeal – a Southampton charity that provides support to children suffering from cancer as well as their families and their carers.

The event included teams from airline Flybe and ground handling company Swissport.

Now the airport is looking to support a charity which gives back to the local community to help boost educations, economic regeneration or medical and health.

To apply to be part of the airport’s fundraising visit the airport’s website at southamptonairport.com/charity.

The deadline for applications to be considered is December 1.
