A NEW eco-friendly restaurant delivery service is certainly turning heads in Basingstoke.

It is called Savvii and involves food orders being delivered by two distinctive bright green electric scooters.

Riding the scooters are brothers Kurt and Brett Money, who are based in Rooksdown.

Kurt, who graduated from Winchester University after studying business management and law, said he imported the scooters from China.

“The bikes are a great marketing tool in themselves as they do attract a lot of attention.

“As far as I’m aware nobody else has these particular scooters in the UK.

“In fact they did cause some confusion with HMRC and the DVLA when we went to collect and register them.”

Savvii offers restaurants and their customers an online ordering and delivery service.

Kurt, who owns the business, said: “We’re offering restaurants a cost effective delivery solution.

“The aim is to take traditional restaurants into the takeaway and delivery market.”

Currently in talks with a number of restaurants in Basingstoke, Kurt added: “I do feel there is a need for this service in this area as Basingstoke is growing and attracting a lot more young professionals.

“And I think many of these people will want to order food through higher quality restaurants rather than cheaper takeaways.”

With an aim of growing the business into a national brand, Kurt managed to secure £9,900 funding from the Government from its Business Start-Up Fund.

In addition, he received support from The Grants for Eco Innovation Project, which is funded by The European Regional Development Fund.

The scooters, which have a top speed of 60mph, and an app developed for the business are key to the success of the business.

“The scooters are quirky and are very different to riding a normal motorcycle – they don’t make any noise apart from a hum.

“That has the added advantage of when we’re delivery late at night we won’t disturb people.

“The customer can track progress of the order via a mobile app we’ve developed.

“Just as we’re arriving a text will automatically be sent to say your meal is here, so we don’t even have to knock on your door.”
