THE Topiary Hair & Beauty salon in Old Basing has received a Small Business of the Year Award.

It was presented at a glittering event in Birmingham, at the Networking Mummies Recognition National Business Awards.

Laura Haystaff, who set up the business with her husband Matt in 2004, said: “I’m really surprised that we won it because it was a national award and the other finalists had such strong businesses – I didn’t think I was going to get to the finals let alone win.

“What I do is my passion and it is rewarding, but to be recognised for that is amazing.”

Laura said the judges, including the owner of Ann Summers Jacqueline Gold and BBC Radio 2 presenter Janey Lee Grace, liked The Topiary’s strong brand and the hints and tips offered on its website.

“Jacqueline Gold particularly liked our blogging,” said Laura.

“I don’t know if there are other Basingstoke salons that do as much blogging as we do or are as social media savvy as we are.

“It’s a very important part of our business and we are going to do more as we have started vlogging, which is video blogging.”

Laura added: “Networking communities like Networking Mummies give crucial guidance and support to mums and dads, like us, who want to pursue not only a career, but to build a company for our children’s future and contribute to our local economy.”

Networking Mummies supports mums and dads and families in business with free networking events and affordable workshops.
