A Romsey wine wholesaler toasted is first birthday with a special tasting day for customers and local business owners.

Elegant Wines Ltd were joined by 50 guests at the White Horse Hotel, Romsey on January 15 to sample some of the latest vintages on offer.

Winemakers travelled from Spain, France, Italy and Chile to give tutored tastings, which alongside offerings from major UK importers gave clients a chance to taste more than 100 different wines.

Director Lucy Gray said: “We have been delighted to bring such a range of wines to customers’ attention. The interest in wine, particularly from smaller ‘boutique style’ producers, is growing massively and these can offer great value.” Among the visiting wine makers was Frederic Corpel from Vinitrio Carcassonne in France who was showcasing the award-winning Domaine De La Baguiere's Grand Caprice, a lively blend of Syrah and Grenache matured in oak.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this wine exclusively in the UK,” said Lucy.

Also speaking about their product were Gemma Moreno and Lara Olarte, who travelled from Badaran in La Rioja, Spain where Gemma’s father David has been winemaking for generations in his Bodegas.

Elegant stock their 2008 Vobiscum, a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha, which has won countless awards. Elegent Wines is based at the Abbey Park Industrial Estate.
