Parcelforce Worldwide opens Basingstoke depot creating new jobs
ROYAL Mail Group’s express parcels business, Parcelforce Worldwide, has opened a new depot in Basingstoke.
The new depot is part of a UK-wide expansion programme which has already created 113 new jobs in Basingstoke and is expected to create up to around 180 jobs in the area over the next three years.
The Parcelforce Worldwide expansion is part of Royal Mail Group’s strategy to grow its parcels businesses in the UK and overseas.
The 9,950 square metre depot in Grafton Way, has the capacity to hold up to 105 vehicles and handle up to thirty thousand parcels a day.
The new depot will enable Royal Mail Group’s express parcels business to meet the growth in demand in the business-to-business, business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer parcels markets.
Peter Fuller, operations director for Parcelforce Worldwide, said “We are delighted to be opening a new Parcelforce Worldwide depot in Basingstoke as part of our investment to grow our parcels business.
“The creation of up to around 180 new jobs over the coming three years will enable us handle more parcels while ensuring we continue to provide a very high level of service to our customers in Basingstoke and across the UK.”
He said Royal Mail Group remains well positioned to benefit from the expected growth in online retailing in the UK, with parcel volumes in its core UK business growing five per cent on a like-for-like basis in the last financial year to 1,064 million items.
