SOUTHAMPTON has gone baking mad.
Since the last episode of the Great British Bake Off there has been a surge in buying baking equipment including measuring cups and spoons, paper cases, food mixers and mixing bowls as people put their culinary skills to the test.
John Lewis in WestQuay is among the shops that have seen a boost in sales with 44 per cent more food mixers leaving their shelves in the last week.
Martin Bundy, kitchenwear manager at John Lewis Southampton, said: “We are getting really excited about the Great British Bake Off – we are fans and it seems our customers are too.
“It definitely captivates the nation and inspires them to get into the kitchen with spatulas at the ready.
“We have a lot of customers that want to recreate the tasty treats they have seen on the show and we have got plenty of tools to help them whether you are a baking beginner or a marzipan maestro.”
