RECOGNISING WOMEN: Awards organiser Tara Howard, centre, with the Mayor of Southampton Cllr Derek Burke and sponsors at the launch of the Venus Awards 2013 at the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton.
TODAY is International Women’s Day and the organisers of a prestigious competition are urging businesswomen making a contribution in the south to be recognised for their achievements.
There are still two weeks left to nominate female entrepreneurs, bosses and employees for this year’s Daily Echo-backed NatWest Venus Awards and founder Tara Howard is urging everyone to honour women’s achievements today.
The mum-of-four, who is the managing director of Langtry Manor Hotel in Bournemouth, Dorset, said: “I feel it’s apt to close nominations two weeks after International Women’s Day. It’s a day that aims to recognise and empower women in all areas of society, which echoes the sentiment of the awards perfectly.
“It’s a worldwide event that has been happening every year and growing in popularity for over 100 years and we can celebrate it in Southampton by showing our appreciation for the hard working women we know and making a nomination.”
The award-winners will be announced at a special night at the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton on June 18.
This year there are 12 categories. From top bosses to the supermums who juggle their business success with bringing up a family, they are open to all women.
The Daily Echo is again sponsor of the Business Mother of the Year award, which pays homage to the extraordinary role played by women both in the workplace and at home. The Future Employment Employer of the Year Award is also open to men.
