OWAIS Shah will fly in from a family holiday tomorrow morning in time to play for Hampshire at T20 Finals Day.

Only five players (Chris Gayle, Brad Hodge, David Hussey, Brendon McCullum and David Warner) have scored more T20 runs than Shah, who was signed by Hampshire on a match-by-match basis in May, following an injury to Liam Dawson in the opening game.

He helped Hampshire to four wins out of five while scoring 149 runs at 74.5, before joining the Jamaica Tawallahs at the Caribbean Premier League.

Shah was not at his best as the franchise reached the semi-finals, but Hampshire hope he will be back to his best after a break in Dubai as he prepares for his first T20 Blast game for two months as Glenn Maxwell’s replacement.

Director of cricket Giles White said: “Owais comes back on Saturday morning, he’s flying to London then travelling up so hopefully he’ll be there!

“He’d already planned a family holiday when we signed him but has readjusted it accordingly."

Hampshire arrived in Birmingham yesterday and will benefit from the experience of their previous four Finals Days as they prepare to take on Lancashire in the second semi-final at 2.30pm.

White added: “It’s quite a long day if you’re not used it can be quite rushed to it so we’ll be planned and organised.”
