A WOMAN was cut from her car following a third collision in Winchester.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the outside lane between junctions 9 and 10 northbound on the M3 – hours after two women were fatally killed in two separate collisions. Firefighters from Eastleigh and Winchester cut the woman from her red Vauxhall Vectra after she hit the central reservation, it is believed.

A significant amount of damage was caused to the barrier and the outside and middle lanes were closed.

Traffic quickly built up during the hour it took to free her, at approximately 3pm, before she was taken to Southampton General Hospital. It is not yet known if any other vehicles have been involved.

South Central Ambulance Service sent one rapid response vehicle, one ambulance crew and the hazardous area response team.
