1. Explore Winchester Cathedral's Christmas Market - until December 21

It's back! More than 60 traders will spend the next month selling festive wares from wooden chalets draped in tinsel and warmed by Christmas spirit. Children will glide and occasionally fall over while the grown-ups enjoy a glass or two of mulled wine. What's not to like?

The famed Lantern Parade starts tonight at 6pm.

2. It doesn't have to be mulled ... Winchester Wine Festival - all weekend

Sample more than 100 wines and learn from the masters as BBC1's Peter Richards and Susie Barrie take Winchester for a few good glasses. Many events are already sold out but tickets for masterclasses and the main exhibitions are still on sale here, with a four-hour session costing £25.

3. Cardinal Burns at the Theatre Royal - Sunday

BAFTA nominated comedy duo Cardinal Burns are at the Theatre Royal on Sunday night as part of their national tour. They are ready to unleash familiar faces and never-before-seen characters. The show is at 7.30pm and tickets cost £16.

4. Singles night at Winchester Science Centre - Saturday

Discover science - and maybe something more - from 7pm. The centreinvites guests to enjoy
canapés, a free welcome drink, planetarium shows and introductory games and quizzes. The onsite cafe will be serving curry (including vegetarian option) at an additional cost of £6.95. Tickets cost £20.

5. Last Night of the Autumn Proms - Sunday

From Verdi and Sousa to Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia, watch the close of the autumn proms with the London Concert Orchestra and star soloists Mario Sofroniou and Ilona Domnich. From 3pm at the Anvil, Basingstoke. Tickets start at £25.50. Audience participation is strongly encouraged.

6. Don your badger outfit and protest the cull - Saturday

Up to 100 people will dress in black and white in Winchester on Saturday in a peaceful protest against the Government's plans to cut the badger population. The march, the first of its kind in Hampshire, starts at noon with speeches from leading campaigners.

7. Clothes swap at Winchester Discovery Centre - Saturday

Want a new outfit on a budget? Looking to find a new home for that jumper you haven't worn since last Christmas? Bring five or more items to the Discovery Centre from 8.30pm. Tickets cost £10 with proceeds going to charity.

8. Simone Felice at the Railway - Sunday

New York born country songsmith Simone Felice will singing a retrospective of songs from the Felice Bros, Duke & King and songs from his two solo albums. He will be accompanied by Anna Mitchell. The show is at 7.30pm and tickets cost £17 on the door. 

9. Christmas at Marwell Zoo - from Sunday

Meet Mr and Mrs Claus and their elves. Run during normal opening hours of 10am-4pm and in the evening with Christmas lights. Tickets cost £25 for adults and children over three can be bought here.

10. Boogie with Winchester's dance sensation Ronald Burgess

Ronald Burgess is the twinkle-toed pensioner who has taken the internet by storm. If you see him in the High Street this weekend, be sure to say hello and throw down some moves.
