A PRESSURE group which wants improved sports facilities in Winchester took to their bicycles last weekend to boost their funds.
The Winchester Sport Art and Leisure Trust (SALT), or Fit 4 the Future as it was previously known, held a static bike challenge as part of its 2012 hours campaign.
The event on Sunday in St Maurice’s Covert, in Winchester’s High Street, saw 818 kilometres clocked up in the 12-hour feat, raising £200.
Tom Pugh, of District Sports Winchester, (pictured below) cycled for the whole 12 hours, joined by cyclists from Tri Team Wessex and members of the public.
He said: “This is an incredible achievement, and shows what we can do if we work together as a community. A special shout out goes to Rory, aged 10, and Tobey, aged nine, who cycled 15km and 12km respectively.”
Dancers from Integr8 wowed the crowd to DJ Aston Harrison’s tunes.
The 2012 hours campaign kicked off on July 27, and lasts just as long, finishing on October 19 with a Community Ball at Norton Park.
