A PROJECT that draws on images of the past to illustrate a scheme for future housing is drawing to a close.

A community arts project in Stanmore, Winchester, has dipped into the memories and photo collections of local residents.

The images will reproduced on 20 large panels on hoardings at a new housing scheme at the New Queens Head on Stanmore Lane.

Planning permission was recently given for 21 new council houses on the site of the now-demolished pub.

The project, A Postcard for Stanmore, has been led by community artist Laurence Dube-Rushby.

As well as images from local people, local organisations such as the City of Winchester Trust, the Hampshire Chronicle and the city council’s museum department have also delved into the archives.

Laurence has also been recording people’s stories. QR codes will be incorporated into the design so that people with tablets and smart phones can listen to the recordings while viewing the image.

There is still time to take part by visiting the project website apostcardforstanmore.weebly.com/.

The new homes at the New Queens Head are due to be completed by April 2016.
