A SWANMORE College pupil has been accepted into the UK’s leading youth brass band.
Rebecca Charters, 15, will attend this year’s summer course with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, which gives young instrumentalists the chance to perform advanced music and receive high quality teaching.
It takes place on August 2-9 at Wymondham College in Norfolk and is celebrating its 62nd anniversary.
Cornet player Rebecca, of Waltham Chase, said: “I’m very pleased. I haven’t been in the youth band before and the summer course has got great teachers. I’m excited to start.”
The teenager also plays with Otterbourne Brass alongside her mother Sonja Charters.
Mrs Charters said: “We as parents are obviously extremely proud of her. She puts in a massive amount of time and practise inbetween all her school work. Becca takes everything in her stride.”
The Guest Conductor is Major Michelle Rakers, of the United States Marine Band, and conductor and composer Bramwell Tovey is the artistic director.
The course will finish with two concerts – the first at Beccles Church in Suffolk, and the second at Regent Hall in London.
