NEARLY 120 flood-hit families and businesses in the Winchester district have received financial help so far.

Rob Humby, leader of the city council, announced the figure at Cabinet on Thursday, June 5.

Cllr Humby said: “There are strict criteria for this flood support and I would like to thank officers and councillors for helping householders and businesses in the district to navigate their way through the process and receive the help they need.

“I am especially grateful that local people have appreciated this financial support is designed for those who were severely affected with flood water inside their properties.”

Civic chiefs have held flood clinics in the worst affected areas, liaised with parish councils, the Winchester District Citizens Advice Bureau and Government offices; and one-to-one visits to homes and businesses.

Support has included relief on council tax and business rates as well as business support grants and repair and renew grants.
