A FLOOD-hit children’s play ground is set to reopen today.

There has been much confusion about whether or not the North Walls Play Area was safe to use after recent floods saw it water-logged and strewn with litter and debris.

It was closed last Friday (February 28), despite remaining open throughout the recent bout of bad weather, but now Winchester City Council has good news for parents and children.

A spokesman said: “The weather forecast for the weekend is good so we wanted to open the play area before Monday if possible.

“Our contractors are completing the cleaning today and we expect to re-open the site at approximately 4pm this afternoon (Friday March 7).”

Parents had been critical about the council’s apparent lack of communication about the safety of the park, and concerns about contamination in the flood water.
