A NEW date has been set for a documentary following young actors with Down’s syndrome.

Growing Up Down’s follows Blue Apple Theatre’s touring production of Hamlet both in and out of rehearsals, and sheds light on the trials and tribulations of growing up with Down’s syndrome and other learning difficulties.

The documentary was originally set for release on BBC3 on January 21, but was pushed back due to scheduling issues.

Amongst the actors is a Winchester man, Tommy Jessop, who plays the title role in the production - which has travelled to five counties and performed in front of an audience of over three thousand.

Tommy’s brother, William Jessop, directed, produced and filmed the intimate account, which they hope will blast some of the myths surrounding the common, but misunderstood learning disability.

Growing Up Down’s will now be shown on BBC Three at 9pm on February 3.

Jane Jessop, mother of Tommy and William and founding director of Blue Apple Theatre, said: “We hope this documentary will show what people can do when given chances.”

The company are planning another touring production for Spring 2015.
