'That was the best magic show ever' - that was the words that came gushing out of my son's mouth as we stepped out of the Theatre Royal.
He's nearly seven years old, and was bowled over by Morgan & West's Massive Magic Show for Kids.
Not only had he watched the whole hour, fixated on Morgan & West, laughing at all the right places, he'd also got to go up on stage and hold a card up for their finale trick. If things couldn't get any better, he was able to meet them in person in the theatre lobby after.
We'd been to see the show on Sunday, May 5 in the afternoon and the show was one hour of fun. It was billed for kids and their childish grown-ups, and it certainly kept all of us entertained. There were lots of gags, one-liners and tricks, even little sister, who is almost five, was entertained by the performance and managed to sit still throughout.
Morgan & West have taken on a type of Horrible Histories type of humour, dressed as two Victorian gents, on a set that looks curious. It's not your traditional brightly-coloured, loud, garish kid's fayre, typically found at kid's birthday parties, it's more stylish and subtle, and the pair are so endearing, you can't help but be drawn into the storyline (yes, there's a storyline - more than your normal magic show).
It's probably not one for toddlers, as it involves a bit of understanding of the supernatural, but certainly for anyone nearly five and above, it's a win.
The plot follows a ghost and there's a mix of tricks, broken up by jokes.
Until now, Morgan & West had not entered our family's world - but with their subtle charm, dashing attire and childish (but clean) humour, I am sure we'd be more than happy to watch them again.
They have already performed in national tours of Unbelievable Science and the Great Big Christmas Magic Show, as well as been on The Slammer (CBBC) and Penn & Teller (ITV/CW Network), so I am sure they are at the start of a great career.
If little boy wit, whimsy, and wall-to-wall silliness is your thing, then Morgan & West are worth a trip to the theatre.
They have a variety of dates, but are next in the south on June 1 at Reading's South Street.
